TrueFit compression sock size guide

Two sizes cover almost everybody. Match your shoe size first, then double-check your calf — that second number is the one people get wrong.

How to measure your calf properly

  1. Measure first thing in the morning, before any swelling builds up.
  2. Stand with your weight evenly on both feet.
  3. Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the calf — usually about a third of the way up from the ankle.
  4. Keep the tape snug but not tight enough to press into the skin.

If that number is over 16 inches, order L/XL regardless of shoe size. A strap stretched past its comfortable range starts behaving like the narrow band we designed TrueFit to replace.

Getting them on the first time

A 20–30 mmHg sock is meant to be firm, so don't try to yank it on like a gym sock. Turn the sock inside out down to the heel, slip your foot in, seat the heel properly, then roll the leg up. Never bunch the top over — a folded strap doubles its pressure. We walk through it step by step in our guide on how to put on compression socks without a fight.

Sizing questions

What if I'm between the two sizes?

Go by calf circumference rather than shoe size. If your calf measures over 16 inches at its widest point, choose L/XL even if your shoe size falls in the S/M range — the wide comfort strap needs to sit flat to work.

Are TrueFit socks unisex?

Yes. Both sizes are given in women's and men's shoe sizes, and the plain knee-high black knit is deliberately neutral.

Can I exchange for the other size?

Yes. Email support@truefitsocks.com within 30 days and we'll arrange the swap, or refund you under the money-back guarantee.

Do they stretch out over time?

Not if you wash them cold and hang them dry. Heat is what destroys elastane. Cared for properly, a pair holds its compression for around six months of regular wear.
